Book Description:

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she is the best —but she does not know if even she is good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, Elena knows failure is not an option— even if the task is impossible.

Because this time, it's not a wayward vamp she has to track. It's an archangel gone bad.

The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other—and pull her to the razor's edge of passion. Even if the hunt does not destroy her, succumbing to Raphael’s seductive touch just might. For when archangels play, mortals break...

This series had been recommended to me so many times already that I honestly lost track. Then I joined Gotta Have Paranormal with a Kick: Vets VS Newbies Reading Challenge and my partner, Vet Angela (yup, I’m the newbie of the duo) chose Angels’ Blood for me. I cannot thank her enough! There are few series that I get hooked on like “can’t stop reading.” It happened when I discovered Night Huntress by Jeaniene Frost, Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward, The Midnight Breed by Lara Adrian, The Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning, and it just happened again with Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter, who would have thought that ethereal beings such as angels could be so devastatingly hot!

Elena Deveraux is a born hunter, she works for the one organization on Earth in charge of tracking unruly vampires that have broken their contracts and have become fugitives of Angelic Law. As a born huntress, she is faster and stronger than the average human with heighten senses. Her particular skill gives her the edge in tracking down vampires, after all the girl can literary distinguished their unique aroma. That skill combined with her spotless track record has brought her up to the attention of the Cadre, the governing circle of Archangels ruling Earth. Now she must work alongside Raphael in order to track down a threat that can potentially end civilization as we (they) know it. Elena knows that this mission has put her on borrowed time and her attraction to certain Archangel is not making things easy at all, not to mention that echoes from the past are threatening to spill into the present.

Elena is a tough, no-nonsense, type of character. Her exterior persona is that on cool and controlled, but a tragedy during her childhood marked her forever. I love reading about her type of characters, strong and independent, but honest and grounded. She will not start a problem but she sure knows how to end them.

To contrast her we have Raphael, New York’s devastatingly beautiful and lethal archangel. Tasking Elena with a mission that could prove to be her last, he is surprised to find himself attracted to woman with the platinum hair. Of the two, Raphael is the character that has the most growth throughout the book. He’s arrogant and condescending, but then again, he is also over millennia old. By the end of the book what started as a weird relationship (he likes to push, she pushes back) turns into a full blown romance.

If you are a PNR fan, this series is a most have. The book has a sneek peak at Branded by Fire, a Psy-Changeling Novel.
